A Backyard Surprise Proposal in West Palm Beach, Florida

Real, raw, and full of love—Christine and Patrick’s next chapter

A Backyard Proposal That Wasn’t Perfect—But Was Absolutely Right

This wasn’t a styled shoot. It wasn’t planned down to the second or set against some sweeping Florida view. But it was something even better—it was real.

Christine is my cousin, and when Patrick reached out to plan a surprise proposal in my sister’s backyard in West Palm Beach, Florida, I said yes without hesitation. It was simple, intimate, and deeply meaningful. Just the way it should be.

The proposal happened right in the middle of a casual family gathering. Most of us had no idea what was about to happen—least of all Christine. There was that unmistakable energy in the air that says something big is about to happen—but only a few of us knew what it was.

It Wasn’t Pinterest-Perfect. But It Was Perfect for Them.

Patrick got down on one knee, and Christine—completely shocked—immediately said yes. They wrapped their arms around each other in this beautiful, unscripted moment of joy.

It was a proposal that reflected who they are as a couple: grounded, kind, and ready to build a life together as a family.

After the initial excitement, Christine took a moment to change into a dress, and we captured a few more polished photos—the kind you want to share with friends and family, or post online to announce the big news. I loved being able to offer her both: the raw emotion of the moment and the joyful celebration afterward.

Family, New Beginnings, and a Baby Girl on the Way

This one hits close to home. Not just because Christine is my cousin, but because I’ll be standing beside her (with a brand new baby girl in my arms!) later this year when she and Patrick say “I do.”

Watching her become a fiancée, a wife, and part of a growing family has been such a gift—and knowing that her son gets to be part of this new chapter makes it even more meaningful.

Sometimes it’s not about the venue, the outfits, or the lighting. It’s about the heart behind it. And this proposal had all the heart.

Why I Love Photographing Proposals (Even the Raw, Real Ones)

As a South Florida photographer, I’ve photographed proposals on beaches, in gardens, and at perfectly planned events—but this one reminded me: you don’t need a perfect setup to create perfect memories.

Some of the most meaningful photos are the ones you couldn’t have staged if you tried.

Planning a Proposal in South Florida? Here’s My Advice:

  • Don’t overthink it. Whether it’s a backyard, a beach, or a park—what matters is the connection.
  • Loop in someone you trust. Having a photographer (and maybe a friend or sibling) in the know makes things run smoother.
  • Be present. Say what you need to say, don’t worry about the photos—we’ll capture the real magic for you.

FAQs: South Florida Proposal Photography

Can I book a photographer for a surprise backyard proposal?

Absolutely! Backyard or beach, casual or elegant—capturing the moment is always worth it.

Is it OK if the proposal isn’t perfectly styled?

More than OK. Some of the best proposals are simple and heartfelt. Real emotion always wins.

What if we want a few polished photos after the moment?

Perfect! We can build in a few minutes afterward for more posed shots—like Christine did—so you get both sides of the story.

How soon should I reach out to plan my proposal session?

A month or more in advance is ideal, but if you’re planning something last-minute, send me a message—I’ll do what I can!
